Cats: never got them. Or rather, couldn't quite connect with those referred to as 'cat people'. Like you have to choose just one animal to love. A sweeping generalisation but I've always thought cat people smelt faintly of wee and were prone to preciousness. Then, a few weeks ago, the two year old was given a kitten for his birthday. I write this post with my new friend curled up and purring in my lap. Seeing as I often smell faintly of vomit (not mine) or wee (sometimes mine), I might as well complete the look with clothes covered in cat hair.
This week's white in the fridge is:
Cape Peak Chardonnay 2009, currently half price, £3.50 per bottle if bought by the case from http://www.tesco.com/
This is a fantastic value Chardonnay that manages to revive and relax all at the same time. Creamy, not oaky, perfect for supping whilst watching Relocation. Hope they go for the sea view.
Current red on the side is:
Cape Peak Pinotage 2009, currently half price, £3.50 per bottle if bought by the case from http://www.tesco.com/
The Pinotage grape is often responsible for the wine version of marmite. All blackcurrant and spice, I love this wine almost as much as my cat.

La La Land
A late post from me this week, I've been away with work. In fact, still here in the wierd and wonderful place that is Los Angeles. A dose of sun and a red convertible Mustang has taken the edge off missing the children, but I'll be happy when on that return flight tomorrow. The boys and baby have been time-tabled this week: a spreadsheet setting out who does what, where and when is on the fridge door at home. They are being supervised by adults rather than left to own devices, obviously. However, I can't wait to get back and rip that timetable up, as soon as I've scooped and hugged. Tears of guilt, relief and joy are likely to follow (mine), along with a simple 'can we have our presents now?' (the boys).
No wines in the fridge or on the side this week as not at home. But the Margheritas have been fabulous.

Edited Out
So, we went to a gig the other night to see the very excellent Editors. Loved the music but the dancing and whooping felt ever-so-slightly self-conscious. Is it me? Anyway, my music-native friend who organised the tickets explained that the term gig is out. It is now called a 'show' apparently. Fine if you haven't had children, but for anyone who spent days - or in my case weeks - waiting for a different kind of 'show' I would much rather stick with gig. Far less messy.
This week's white in the fridge is:
Maurel Vedeau Grenache Sauvignon Blanc 2008, £4.50 per bottle/£27 per case, 50% off at http://www.tesco.com/
A gorgeous white blend with the unmistakeable whiff of Sauvignon and lovely green apple notes from the Grenache. Drink well chilled innit.
This week's red on the side is:
Long Country Cabernet Sauvignon 2008, £4.00 per bottle/£24 per case, 50% off at http://www.tesco.com/
A brilliant Chilean red at half price. Not much wrong with that sentence. Blackberries and spice in a glass.
Until next week, bottoms up xx

No News Is Good News...
There was a time when the Sunday Papers were read cover to cover all before our first glass of wine at lunchtime on a Sunday. No longer. Now, I might manage one article in short bursts over the course of the morning in between feeding/dressing/conversing with various small people in the house. By the time lunch has been devoured, dogs walked and children sorted, the Sunday slumber sets in and I've lost my appetite for all but the Magazine. Maybe a bit of property porn at a push. But I can't imagine it any other way nowadays: it's all good (news).
The current red on the side is:
Villa Maria Cellar Selection Pinot Noir 2008, £9.99 if you buy 2 bottles, Majestic Wine Warehouse
Pinot Noir is an expensive habit but so is waxing. Smooth, dark bramble fruits with a good lick of oak make it that bit more serious.
With thanks to Milly for making my blog look so much better.
