Rock On, Mumsnet

When I got into this whole blogging thing, it was largely about me, obviously. Yes, there's the wine - hurrah for the wine! - and the fact that I hoped to encourage people to drink better wine, rather than hit the half-price wall. But it was as much about the weekly ritual of putting fingers to keyboard and writing about wine (and me, obviously). Something I still, four years on, really look forward to. And it led me to discover brilliant, funny blogs written by others, many of whom also happen to be mothers (find them on my Friends' Blogs page). So it was I found myself at the first ever Mumsnet Blogfest in London on Saturday. Speakers included the simply beautiful Miriam González Durantes, Prof Tanya Byron, Caitlin Moran, Natasha Walter and the coolest blogger of all, The Bloggess. Think what you like about Mumsnet but this amazing, funny, inspiring day left me believing that the hand that rocks the cradle is indeed the hand that rocks the world.*

This week's white in the fridge: Macon Villages Les Pierres Blanches 2011, £6.99 if you buy 2 bottles, Majestic
I read there's another Bridget Jones book on the way, so by way of celebration here's a Chardonnay to go with it. This one, made by one of the best co-ops in the Maconnais region in France is one of the most delicious white Burgundy wines available at this price, IMHO. It is ripe, round, golden and deliciously apple & pear-like. Easy drinking, so much so you can drink it......all together now, hairbrush in hand.....all by itse-eh-elf...

This week's red on the side: Catena Malbec 2010, £9.99 on offer, Waitrose
After drinking a glass of Prosecco at the end of the Mumsnet Blogfest, I left the noisy room at the top of Millbank and headed home to the Husband. He had dinner ready and waiting on the table. Rather marvellous it was too: fajitas with homemade guacamole. The extra chillies he put in - oh yes, quite the experimental chef - made it fairly pokey, but this spicy Malbec from Argentina had its measure. Made by the very excellent Catena family in the Mendoza region, this gorgeous beast bursts with bramble fruit and pepper, even a hint of vanilla. Definitely not one to have all by itself. Needs the food equivalent of big pants.
