Team Honk: bringing the awesome

It started with a tweet. Comic Relief were in the planning stages of how to mark this year's 25th anniversary of Red Nose Day. A blogger I know tweeted back and said: 'how can we help?'. Fast forward to Sunday and T, Penny and Annie found themselves on a plane to Accra, Ghana on a trip to see for themselves - and share via their blogs and tweets - the good work done by Comic Relief. Over two days, they visited projects including the Virtuous Women's Bakery (see right, more on Annie's blog) and the Basic Needs Trust, helping people with mental illness to improve their quality of life. I've been following their progress on Team Honk. And it has been amazing: emotional, inspiring and quite the reality check. #Goodwork, ladies.

Current white in the fridge: The Optimist Old Vine Semillon 2011, £7.99, Laithwaites
Bye-bye January *does two-fingered salute*. I'm celebrating with a small glass of something uplifting. Old vine Semillon no less, although I can't work out how old they actually are. Whatever, this wine matches the mood and food of the evening. Tonight's baked potato was improved enormously with this (although the cheese and generous dollop of mayo did their bit too). Think lemons, limes and knarly old vines. Works for me. There's also a bottle of this up for grabs, all you need to do is promise me you will visit Team Honk and/or tell people about it. Then the usual: leave a comment, names in a hat and my mum will pick a winner next week.

Current red in the rack: Porcupine Ridge Syrah 2011, £7.99, Waitrose
Hello, spiky pig *wraps hands round bottle*. I know it is a porcupine, but ever since a friend called it 'that spiky pig wine', so it has thus remained. Made by a very nice man called Marc Kent, the grapes are sourced from the sizzling (as in exciting) Swartland region in South Africa. I love this: it has something of the animal about it. That, and Rhone-like blackberry and peppery oomph. Some of it has been aged in French oak barrels too, adding texture. Pass the pig.

Honk honk x
