Seeing Stars

As Christmas traditions go, this one's not my favourite. But it is a tradition, nonetheless. I'm talking about baking Christmas biscuits for the school Christmas Bazaar AT THE LAST MINUTE. It's today. So, naturally, I started making biscuits at 10pm last night. I'd been to a local Christmas pop-up shop at a friend's house to sell my book (perfect present for any wine-loving friend for just £7.99, as you know), so as soon as I got home I poured a glass of wine, put Mariah on a loop and got cracking. Turned out fifty of these by midnight. Hardly Bake Off material but technically, I'm star baker.

Current white in the fridge: Casillero del Diablo Chardonnay 2014, £5.48 (normally £7.98), Asda
This is an old favourite, one that I don't drink that often but when I do, am always glad we opened it. It's properly ripe and round, with peach and citrus fruit flavours. Basically, a really sunny wine with a bit more weight to it than the lean whites of summer that just don't feel right at the moment. Definitely took the edge off Mariah on a loop. Amazing value at this price.

Current red in the rack: Nieto Senetiner Bonarda 2014, £9, M&S
Just the best red to have on the side at the moment. The Bonarda grape is usually found in northern Italy but here's what happens when you plant it in Argentina and an M&S winemaker teams up with a great Argentinian winemaker. It's bright, fruity, loaded with lovely black cherry fruit and with just the right amount of oomph to make it serious (but not too much). Just add a huge bowl of pasta and an episode of The Affair.
